WEF Davos 2023: Frankfurt RheinMain region meets decision-makers from business and politics

News

From January 16 to 20, representatives of companies and governments from around the world will meet for the 53rd edition of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. On January 17, FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH International Marketing of the Region (FRM GmbH) in cooperation with MALEKI CORPORATE GROUP hosted the traditional reception of the Frankfurt RheinMain Region in Davos. This reception has become a constant feature in the diaries of numerous personalities from politics, society and business. For the first time Dr. Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg, acting mayor of the city of Frankfurt am Main and member of the supervisory board of FRM GmbH, opened the reception in the Swiss mountains.

"This year's motto "Working together in a fragmented world" puts the focus of the meeting on issues such as climate protection, inflation, food security and the war in Ukraine. We are currently seeing multiple crises taking place at the same time. This poses major challenges for business and society that can only be overcome if governments, business and organizations work together. The fact is that the global economy must become more sustainable in the future. The Frankfurt RheinMain region must - and will - also manage to combine sustainability with economic success. That is the central task we must master in the coming years," said Dr. Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg. "In competition with regions such as London, Paris and Amsterdam, it is enormously important for us as the Frankfurt RheinMain Region to be present at events with international appeal such as the WEF. The numerous good and intensive discussions we have had here are proof of the quality of this event."

For many years, the Frankfurt RheinMain Region has been the only German region to attend the WEF in Davos. In addition to Dr. Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg, Dr. Felix Schwenke, Lord Mayor of the City of Offenbach and member of the Supervisory Board of FRM GmbH, also visited Davos. He promoted Frankfurt RheinMain as a business location, which, even in times of crisis when the global economy is reorienting itself, is the ideal launchpad for companies to position themselves in the European market and whose high quality of life is often underestimated. Frankfurt's Head of Economic Affairs Stefanie Wüst and Jürgen Herzing, Mayor of the City of Aschaffenburg, were in Davos for the first time. Both are also members of the supervisory board of FRM GmbH. In the talks, both made a strong case for Frankfurt RheinMain as a business location. The Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry was represented this year by its Vice President Frank Nagel.

Around 200 decision-makers from national and international companies, associations and corporations as well as numerous guests from the world of politics were represented in Davos. Among them were Joachim Nagel, President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, Dr. Andre Kobelt, Member of the Board of Managing Directors Heraeus, Thomas Saueressig, Executive Board Member SAP SE, Carsten Knobel, CEO Henkel, Omid Nouripour, Member of the Bundestag and Federal Chairman of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, Erkki Liikanen, former Finnish Finance Minister and co-responsible for the establishment of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) in Frankfurt, Gunjan Bhardwaj, Founder and CEO Innoplexus group, Lakshmi Lalita Mohan, Head & Representative Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Wolfgang Poissel, Director General Communications European Central Bank (ECB), Heinz Hilger, CEO Standard Chartered Bank AG and Frank Scheidig, Global Head of Senior Executive Banking DZ BANK AG.

"This year, we were once again able to welcome numerous international guests at our reception and hold exciting discussions. In the process, we also succeeded in eliminating preconceptions about Frankfurt RheinMain at one point or another. The financial center Frankfurt plays a particularly important role in the international perception. It is therefore important to position ourselves in other sectors as well, in which we have outstanding competencies spread throughout the region. Our event was attended by representatives of companies that have already invested in Frankfurt RheinMain - as well as those we would like to convince to invest and those who act as multipliers to spread the word about our economic expertise," says Eric Menges, Managing Director of FRM GmbH.
