Peter Feldmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH International Marketing of the Region and Lord Mayor of the City of Frankfurt: "Our location experts have received 204 new location enquiries this year - actually ten more than in 2020, despite existing restrictions due to the pandemic. The continuing interest of international companies in our region clearly shows how attractive Frankfurt RhineMain is as a business location. An encouraging sign in difficult times!"
Frankfurt RhineMain meets...
In the second half of the year, FRM GmbH's international experts were able to hold three investor events. In addition, FRM GmbH was represented for the first time with its own stand at Automechanika Istanbul, which is organised annually by Messe Frankfurt.
In September, representatives from Frankfurt RheinMain travelled to Krakow for the first time after a long break. The delegation spoke to representatives of Polish companies to encourage them to settle in the region. Around 60 decision-makers from Polish companies, associations and corporations as well as guests from the world of politics accepted the invitation.
In October, a delegation led by Lord Mayor Feldmann travelled to Tel Aviv to promote Frankfurt RheinMain to representatives of Israeli start-ups. Despite ongoing Covid challenges, the interest of the Israeli company representatives was very high. Tel Aviv is one of the most important tech locations worldwide. Israeli companies are internationally oriented from the start due to the country's own market size and geopolitical position. Germany, as the largest European market, is in turn one of the most important export markets. Since numerous young companies from Israel have been attracted to Berlin for years, it is all the more important to promote the advantages of Frankfurt RheinMain locally. Due to its internationality, excellent connections to European markets and as the location of numerous key industries, Frankfurt RheinMain is the perfect starting point for Israeli companies planning to expand their business in Europe.
In November, Feldmann and Menges had Ho Chi Minh City on their agenda to present the region to local entrepreneurs. The economy in Vietnam has changed dramatically in recent years. Up-and-coming Vietnamese companies are planning to expand to Europe in the future. Therefore, it is important to position oneself as a German business location at an early stage.
Also in November, the region was represented for the first time with its own stand at Automechanika in Istanbul. It is the leading international trade fair for the automotive industry in Turkey and the Middle East. In Istanbul it became apparent that the strength and quality of the Frankfurt RheinMain automotive location are still little known: "It is important for us to advertise even more strongly there and to expand our contacts," says Eric Menges, President & CEO of FRM GmbH.
Peter Feldmann: "All the local events and trade fair appearances have shown that even in times of the pandemic it is important to stay in contact and to use existing city partnerships also on an economic level."
Wiesbaden Chamber of Industry and Commerce new shareholder of FRM GmbH
The shareholder structure of FRM GmbH also developed positively in 2021. The Wiesbaden Chamber of Industry and Commerce joined FRM GmbH as a new independent shareholder. Other potential shareholders have already expressed their interest.
"It is a strong signal that the Wiesbaden Chamber of Commerce and Industry decided this year to become an independent member of FRM GmbH. This shows us that our work is appreciated in the region even in difficult times. 2021 was not a year like any other for us either; travel restrictions and cancellations of events and trade fairs also caused us problems. Under these conditions, it is outstanding that our team was able to increase the number of settlement enquiries while maintaining the high quality of the projects, which are primarily based on direct contact with the companies," means Eric Menges.
For the business activities of FRM GmbH as a whole, the supervisory board and management draw a positive conclusion in extremely challenging times.
